Home Insurance - What is the true value of a property?

Nearly all domestic house insurance policies require that the sum assured is the full rebuilding cost of the property. It is the responsibility of the insured to get this figure right. The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has a rebuild calculator to help you check the rebuilding cost of your home. Please click here to access the online calculator.
Please note that it is not the responsibility of insurers or brokers to value the rebuild cost of a property but its the absolute duty of the insured. A broker may give general advice to the home owner about the sum insured, but are not qualified to give any specific advice. It is best to seek advice from your mortgage lender or consult a surveyor.
